Going Local Travel turns two

swing.jpgThis week marks the 2nd anniversary of Going Local Travel.

Back in August 2008, I hesitated before I wrote my first post. Would I keep it up?

Two years later, my dashboard here is showing 165 posts + 410 comments. I’m quite shocked it has lasted this long, and I can’t see myself packing it in anytime soon. Aside from helping me keep on top of my specialisms (local travel, travel networking, South America), it has also put me in touch with so many other travellers and writers, which has been invaluable.

It’s amazing to see how the idea of ‘local travel’ has grown in this time too. It’s even sparked its own ‘movement‘.

This is just a short post to send a very big thanks to anyone who has read this blog at any point over this time, and especially to those who have returned repeatedly and those who have commented. I’ve really enjoyed all the debates and the exchange of ideas.

I’ve just had a trawl through the archives, intrigued to find which were the most-discussed posts. Here they are….

  1. Congratulations Vicky. Keep up the good work! You can count me among the readers who appreciate your “work.” Although I hesitate to use that word because you bring an enthusiasm and fresh perspective to your blog that it’s hard to ignore how much you seem to enjoy maintaining it.

  2. Thanks Steve! Updating has certainly not been a chore.

  3. Sorry I missed this Vicky – been flat out with Grantourismo of course – but a huge congratulations! Great job! I love checking in on you every now and again and spending some time catching up on you with a glass of wine. It’s always a pleasure! x

  4. Many thanks. I’m honoured to have you as a reader, Lara. Your blog was one of the ones that inspired me to start and I really appreciate all your encouragement over the past couple of years. x
